Janssen Pharmaceutica receives Belgian Business Award for the Environment 2009 for antifouling agent ECONEA

On December 2nd, 2009 our company carried off the first “Belgian Business Award for the Environment 2009” for our antifouling agent ECONEATM. The Prize was awarded by HRH Prince Filip, in the presence of Paul Magnette, Minister for Climate and Energy; Thomas Leysen, Chairman of the VBO (FEB, Federation of Enterprises in Belgium); and Jos Delbeke, Deputy Director-General of the Environment Department of the European Commission.

ECONEATM is an extremely effective antifouling agent that is used as an active component in marine paints to prevent the undesired growth of barnacles and seaweeds on the outer hulls of ships without damaging marine fauna and flora. This product has been developed by Preservation and Material Protection (PMP), our Center of Expertise for material protection applications. This bi-annual Prize is awarded to Belgian companies and enterprises who operate in this area and demonstrate a successful combination of innovation, economic success and environmental protection.

Three of the 37 submitted candidates were Janssen Pharmaceutica files. Two of those were nominated. In addition to the antifouling agent ECONEATM, which finally carried off the “Belgian Business Award for the Environment 2009”, the Responsible External Manufacturing project, the Maturity Ladder Concept of the Global Pharmaceutical Supply Group, was also nominated.
